Each year after all the major Holidays I do a little stockpile shopping. I look for things that I can use next year or right away. Stores will have holiday items marked down to 50% off almost immediately and then it will go to 75% and then eventually 90%. The longer you wait the less you will have to pick from but the better deal you will get.We are down to only 1 nice roll of wrapping paper (the rest have kid characters) so I will be picking up a nice roll or two at 50% off and then I will wait and get a few more rolls of whatever is left at 75% or 90% off.
Here are a few tips:
Buy things that you will be able to use or need. Do not buy things just because it is a good price, you will end up spending more money that way.
Think of gifts- A lot of times you can find nice holiday blankets, candles or gift sets that you can use as gifts next year. My favorite is to get super cheap bath and body stuff like bubble bath or chapstick for the kids Valentine’s Day gifts, Easter Baskets or bows on birthday presents. Also, be sure to check out the toys for presents you can stash away for your kiddos birthday or parties they are invited to. Be sure to check the dollar bins at Target.
Think Ahead- Last year we knew we wanted some new wreaths to decorate the outside of our house and a remote for our outdoor lights but we decided to wait until after Christmas to buy them and we got a great deal. Do you need lights? Do you want any new decorations?
Use Coupons- Be sure to use any coupons you can to get an even better deal. Head over here to get candy coupons . You also can usually find gift sets with razors and other personal care items in them that you may be able to use a coupon on so bring them with you.
Check It All Out- Be sure to check out the baking items, the food items, storage containers that have small holiday or winter decorations on them, gifts and toys. Last year I was able to snag some nice 3 packs of plastic cookie tubs for only $0.50 a pack and some plastic wrap that was marked way down because it had snowflakes on it.
Get Yearly Christmas Items Now- If you can afford to I highly recommend buying those yearly Christmas items like wrapping paper, tape and cards now. You will pay a fraction of the price.
